Gina and Her Glocksen Head Home
FOX
I'm a Gina guy. She brought something a little different to the competition; her streaky red hair and the tongue ring signaled she was the "punk" gal this year. Now we're left with three "power" singers and a girl named "Legs." That's not diversity, it's homogeny. It makes Idol a little less fun. Her performance of "Smile" was not terrible, and really, what was she supposed to do? It's not like Tony Bennett has a ton of hard edge to choose from. Tony Bennett is purely vanilla, leaving Gina as a casualty because she was a fun dash of cinnamon. The guy is 80 years old -- he didn't leave a modern gal like Gina a ton of room to maneuver. I think the judges were with me here too. Simon clearly wants Haley off, he's done everything but bring a sign. Gina leaves Melinda and Phil representing the Memphis audition, but Phil looks to be joining her within the next few weeks. We'll be treated to female ballads from here on out. Three will be degrees away from each other (Jordin, Melinda, LaKisha), so it will come down to song choice. Thankfully, for entertainment's sake, we'll still have Haley sporting the shortest "belt-style" skirt she can find while searching fruitlessly for the notes. In this eulogy it should be noted that Gina had the best nickname in Idol history. Better than "Bye-Bye Sanjaya," better than "Phallic-Headed Phil." Gina "Get Your" Glocksen had the requisite amounts of violence and alliteration needed for something special in the moniker department. For all these reasons and more, we're all a little sadder around the office today. Our little Gina sleeps with the Idol fishes. ------------------------------------------------ LaremyLegel.com, wishing I had red-streaked hair. Most Popular Stories
