George Clooney Knows Things About Africa, So You Don't Have To

Some celebrity gossip bloggers like to pretend as though they make a habit of familiarizing themselves regularly with the "news" outside of celebrity goings-on. I won't lie to you: I don't. That world is volatile and complex, and its tireless media inhabitants say things like "trade agreement" and "emerging economy" and "diaspora," and those words make my head hurt on impact.

So it is with great trepidation that I report the following story, and I'll warn you ahead of time that the following words will be used: Darfur, United Nations, peacekeepers, Sudan and genocide. And not necessarily in that order. If you're scared already, remember that I could instead post a photo of Lindsay Lohan's Pink Taco stadium. I have such things, you know.

Let's just get this over with.

Yesterday, George Clooney warned the U.N. Security Council that if they did not send peacekeepers to the Darfur region of Sudan, millions would die in the first genocide of the 21st century.

Phew. Glad that's over with. Man, sometimes I feel like I have the most stressful life in the whole wide world.
