Friday Night Lights: Enough with the Damn Dead Stalker Already!
Landry confessed. Now can we please just declare self-defense or send him to jail and move on with our lives?
NBC
For those of us who have not been enjoying the dead-stalker plot on Friday Night Lights, there may be an end in sight. Last week’s episode concluded with Landry marching into the police station to confess. There are two ways I think this could play out: if the DA rules that it was self-defense and doesn’t press charges, we can move on, or god help us, if there’s a trial that could drag on for the rest of the season or longer (assuming that we get a normal-length season). In the Taylor household, Coach and Tami clashed over her friendship with Glen and desire to leave him at home with Grace to go to Bunko. Tami confronted Noah about his overly-friendly relationship with Julie. Julie found out about it through the high school gossip grapevine and had a fit. Fortunately, Shelly was actually somewhat good in smoothing things over with Julie and helping Tami see the situation from Julie’s perspective. At the Saracen house, Matt and Carlotta got a little closer (until his new girlfriend showed up). This led Matt to solicit Smash’s help. Smash suggested the classic (and never good) idea of getting her to break up with him by suggesting an open relationship. The location in which this advice was given should have given Matt a clue that he wasn’t taking dating tips from the best source. Matt had to go pick Smash up when he accidentally hooked up with a very large lineman’s girlfriend during a college recruiting trip. He ran out of the dorm in his boxers, and it looks like he huddled under a freeway overpass until Matt showed up. And again I ask: What the hell happened to Waverly? Tim’s new roommate seemed like great comic relief. He is very serious about his ferrets, makes smoothies that include a healthy dose of Jack Daniels, and has some loopy hunting techniques. (Well, they seemed loopy to me, but I've never been hunting. Maybe that was normal.) Unfortunately, he also cooks meth in an Airstream trailer in his backyard. Discovering this made Tim resolve to get his life back on track, and he showed up on the practice field in football gear and basically refused to leave until Coach let him back on the team. This leads us to Landry. The one-two guilt trip punches of his dad becoming involved, and meeting the dead-stalker’s brother were too much for him, and apparently he decided that he just wants to get things over with. According to the great big graphics and the very serious announcer voice, the next episode will be all about the “self defense or murder?” question. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for self defense, which would mean moving on for all concerned parties (especially the viewers). * * * Amy Kane spends as much quality time with her television as possible, when she's not busy at her day job as a cube dweller.
