The movie business is to Sarah Jessica Parker as gas prices are to Americans -- never constant, always baffling, and consistently threatening. We all know Sarah Jessica’s show about sex and "The Big Apple" was a wild success, and was completely untouchable. Her movie career, however, is peppered with fun films, but nothing mind-blowing or distinguished. I sometimes wonder what it is everyone, including myself, loves about Sarah Jessica so much. If you were to take away the Sex and The City series, what would she have? Wasn’t there a magazine that voted her as the most unattractive female celebrity? This is bullocks, of course, but it seems that for all the love she gets for Sex and The City, there are also a fair number of unruly haters out there.

For all of you sitting on the fence, I encourage you to read on as I am about to unveil five lofty reasons why Sarah Jessica should be on your "Who to Adore" list:

1.) She's not afraid of taking chances.
Sarah Jessica Parker’s most recent film choices are leaps and bounds away from her infamous role as Carrie Bradshaw. Take for example her newest film, opening this Friday, Smart People: she stars opposite Dennis Quaid (I adore him) and the new, young starlet on everyone’s mind, Ellen Page. While I would still classify this as a romantic comedy, it has a darker quality to it. In the trailer we still hear that familiar Sarah Jessica giggle, but I can tell this is a different role for her. Whether it is more challenging, exciting, or simply interesting for her, I appreciate the change of pace, especially before the approaching wave of Sex and The City in movie form sweeps theaters this summer.

2.) She's aging with grace.
Now this word choice is not to point out age or aging at all. I am of the belief that to say one has aged with grace is a wonderful compliment. She’s in shape and she looks great for 43. She’s got class and a style that carries her through this industry on a pillow of security and professionalism. I respect the image she puts forth.

3.) Her involvement with UNICEF.
She was appointed United States Fund for UNICEF Ambassador in 1997. Nothing speaks more highly of one's character than volunteering time (and giving money) for the greater good.

4.) The movie Hocus Pocus.
I freaking love this movie. Bette Midler was cool, but for me, when I remember this film and think of Sarah Jessica Parker today, I giggle a little to myself. Can you imagine her doing a film like this now? I fear it would include a naked Kim Cattrall, condoms, and Mr. Big alongside witch noses and hats, mysterious steaming pots, and broomsticks. Besides that, big stars just don’t do films like this, save for Johnny Depp (who's a little crazy) and Dustin Hoffman (who's even crazier). If you haven’t seen it, SEE IT.

5.) She's One of a Kind
There is just no one else like her. Whether my fondness for her stems from all the hours of watching Sex and The City, or because she is just that good, I’m not sure I’ll ever know. Regardless, she’s clearly doing something right, what with her thriving career (I didn’t say movie career, I said career) and all.
