To be clear this is just a mean-spirited swipe at a couple of swell guys, Harvey and Bob Weinstein, the fellas who brought us some tremendous films such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, and Good Will Hunting before they started their own production company (The Weinstein Company). Sure, the brothers have had critical success with Sicko and financial success ($178m) with Scary Movie 4 but they've also produced, distributed, or picked up the DVD rights to some truly horrific titles (as if Scary Movie 4 wasn't terrible enough).
This is probably a function of having to ramp up operations, you end up taking on projects that other studios didn't want. And with The Nanny Diaries out on Friday this trend will most likely continue for a bit. They made one of my favorite films of last year, Bobby, but I'm still flummoxed by the overall quality of their output. What are the most egregious examples? Here's my top five.
