Sure, we all root for our favorite nominees come Emmy night. But let's be honest: The red carpet is, by far, the most entertaining portion of the festivities.

Besides the fact that it's devoid of any boring, lengthy, self-serving acceptance speeches, it's also our first glimpse at the fashion hits and misses that accompany each event. Of course, there are no safe bets. But we do have high fashion hopes for several of this year's Emmy nominees based on their past style performances.

Here are our predictions for the Emmys 2009 best-dressed list -- and hopefully, they'll all get to add gold statues as their final accessory:

MARY-LOUISE PARKER
The Weeds star is the poster child for simple beauty. Whether her Emmy gown is figure-hugging turquoise (2008) or red strapless satin (2007), Parker's milky white skin, natural make up and flowing tresses always ensure a look of sophistication that isn't fussy.

MARISKA HARGITAY
It's fun to watch for this award-winning Law & Order: SVU actress, especially since her glam look is such a departure from the ensembles of her character, Olivia Benson. Last year, Hargitay dazzled in a flowy, sunshine yellow gown with an asymmentrical neckline and giant bronze sparkly earrings. She will definitely escape the fashion police in 2009.

CHRISTINA APPLEGATE
You can always count on Applegate to look fresh, glamorous and appropriate for the occasion. Last year, her Emmy look -- an ice blue, one-shoulder dress with metallic detail -- topped nearly every best-dressed list. She usually wears her hair up at red carpet events, and we always look forward to seeing which retro look will top her lovely face.

JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS
Last year, Louis-Dreyfus was a stunner in a salmon Narciso Rodriguez dress with criss-cross details in the front and back. In 2007, she donned a gorgeous purple gown, her brunette locks natural and flowing. No matter what she wears, The New Adventures of Old Christine star is always classy. But she carries off bold colors so well, we're hopeful she chooses another Crayola hue in 2009.

ELISABETH MOSS
This Mad Men actress got to shed her dowdy persona (and those awful sausage roll bangs!) from the show at the 2008 Emmys in favor of a sexy, sophisticated look. While the va-va-voom style of her co-star, Christina Hendricks got a lot of red carpet attention, we also adored loved Moss' glam, silver beaded gown and loose, wavy hair. We're confident she can sell herself with the same ease her TV character creates ads.

SANDRA OH
Yes, the black dress is always a classic. But it also has the tendency to blend into the crowd when it's among other dynamic dresses on the red carpet -- unless you're Oh. For the past couple of years, she chose black dresses with beautiful texture (2008) or subtle details (2007) that made her shine just as bright as actresses wearing show-stopping color or piles of diamonds. No matter what Oh wears, she always tops our best-dressed list.

VANESSA WILLIAMS
Williams plays a fashion maven on Ugly Betty, so it would be a travesty for her to drop the ball in real life. Luckily, she's been on top of her game the past couple of years at the Emmys. Between her floral, black and white dress of 2008 and strapless, feathered, mint green gown of 2007 (both by Kevan Hall), she always makes a positive statement. Wilhelmina would approve.
