Here in Hollywood, no movie was more buzzed about this season than Juno, the new teen-pregnancy comedy from Jason Reitman (Thank You for Smoking). It stars Ellen Page as the titular teen in crisis, probably best known for her roles as a pedophile hunter in Hard Candy and a phase-shifting mutant in X-Men: The Last Stand; her performance will likely transform her already hot career, but is even more likely, it seems, to snag her a Best Actress Oscar nod this January. Last week, I sat down to chat with Page along with Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Superbad), who plays her character’s geeky quasi-boyfriend and baby’s daddy.

Ellen, congratulations on the Independent Spirit Awards nominations for Juno.

Ellen Page: It’s been very exciting, very surreal. It’s funny, because it feels like an honor in the first place just being in the movie, so this feels like, "Whoa!"

Michael Cera: (Walking in late) What?

Juno was nominated for several Independent Spirit Awards.

MC: That’s great.

EP: Did you not know?

MC: No.

EP: We got like four nominations.

MC: Fantastic. I hope we win.

Michael, I talked to Jason Bateman recently and he said he was up for Arrested Development making the jump to the big screen a la Sex in the City.

MC: Yeah, that’d be great. I don’t know. I’ve only ever heard of that from people asking if it would ever happen.

EP: The Family Guy came back.

MC: But with Family Guy, it’s a cartoon. People haven’t aged.

EP: True. You do look older. You have a little more scruff on your chin.

MC: Yeah, I don’t know.

How has life changed for you since Superbad?

MC: Not that much. Every once in a while, people will want a photo. It’s strange, you just kind of pretend it’s not happening.

With awards season kicking into full gear, you both must be excited about the holidays. Any special plans?

MC: I’m going to go home.

EP: I’m going home, yeah. It’s going to be sooo good. I get a little cynical at Christmas, dealing with all the consumer stuff.

Yeah, but that must be easier than the non-stop interviews, festivals, and premieres you’ve been dealing with for the last couple of months.

EP: Right now, I’m pretending I’m like lying in my bed. (Sighs). Yeah, it’s going to be nice.

The movie is great, but I’d love to see the outtakes. It seems like the kind of set where a lot of funny stuff accidentally happened.

MC: Um…

Nothing?

EP: We did a sex scene in a chair.

MC: Yeah, that was weird.

EP: But it was fun.

MC: Everyone gets really delicate on set for that stuff.

EP: I didn’t even think twice about it.

Do their attempts to make you comfortable actually make you more uncomfortable?

MC: Oh yeah.

EP: I remember one time I was shooting this movie, Mouth to Mouth, and I had a sex scene with quite an older man. I could not make that feel good in any way. But while rehearsing for the fight scene, this guy would say (in a heavy Eastern European accent), "And now you mount me." I figured that’s how I should approach a sex scene, like I would a fight scene. "And now you mount me."

Editor's Note: After this interview was taped Juno received nominations for three Golden Globes. Give it a whirl, eh?
