OK, it's truth time. I don't spend a lot of money on DVDs. Is it because the studios so badly crave a positive review from yours truly that they send me everything wrapped in a bow? Um ... no. It's because my family never knows what to get me for Christmas, so they all buy me DVDs. Last year I pulled in a record haul of 37 discs. We'll see how I fare this year. So what kind of DVDs am I asking for (or would have asked for if I hadn't scored them for reviews)?

The Dark Knight
The end all, be all of Christmas gifts this year. There will be untold thousands of people who will receive multiple copies of this as a result of its huge success. And countless numbers of those fans won't be taking back their extra copies. Why? Just in case something happens to the first one. They also might want a copy to keep in their car or at work.

WALL-E
It's not my favorite animated film of the year, but it is the best. Nothing says "Merry Christmas!" like a movie about the dangers of consumerism.

Kung Fu Panda
THIS is my favorite animated film of the year and, as it turns out, also my favorite all-around film. I've spent the last six months turning people onto this and getting lots of thank you letters for it. A great way to surprise an unsuspecting cinephile!

Tropic Thunder
Not only one of the funniest movies of the year, but a DVD loaded with some of the best special features of the year. There's an incredible documentary on this that is a whole other movie unto itself. A must-own!

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

The Incredible Hulk
Hulk Smash. Movie awesome! Must own!

The High School Flashback Collection (Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles)
OK, this came out about a month and a half ago, but I LOVE these movies. It's hard not to love John Hughes in his prime. But these special editions are loaded to the gills with interviews, commentaries, and special features that will make any '80s lover swoon.

Death Race
Gory. Unapologetic. Infinitely stupid. And yet, it is a glorious thrill ride that I will zone-out on the couch to at least a dozen more times, enjoying each and every wonderfully over-indulgent moment.

Lost: The Complete 4th Season
While Heroes continues its downward slide into hell and Pushing Daisies finds itself canceled, Lost only gets better and better. Probably the biggest WTF season so far.

Frost/Nixon
Available December 2 from Liberation Entertainment, just in time for the new film adaptation, this DVD delivers the historic and famously hard-hitting 1977 interview between David Frost and Richard Nixon -- the televised exchange that publicly broke the back of a president. In 2006 it was adapted for a multi-award-winning Broadway stage production starring Frank Langella, who now stars in director Ron Howard's screen version, which happens to be one of the finest films of the year, also named Frost/Nixon. This DVD of the original real deal will be an excellent gift for politicos or those eagerly awaiting the film's Christmas day release.
