Talk about a road trip. In David Lynch's Straight Story (1999), Alvin Straight (Richard Farnsworth) -- 73, and not in proper health to drive -- takes a 260-mile road trip aboard his '66 John Deere to visit his brother who had suffered a stroke. It's a sweet tale, G-rated, and a departure from what you'd expect from your typical Lynch film.
Director: David Lynch
Stars: Richard Farnsworth, Sissy Spacek, Harry Dean Stanton, Jane Galloway Heitz, Everett McGill
Memorable Quote: "Anger, vanity, you mix that together with liquor, you've got two brothers that haven't spoken in ten years. Ah, whatever it was that made me and Lyle so mad... don't matter anymore. I want to make peace, I want to sit with him, look up at the stars... like we used to do, so long ago. "
The next classic clip? I'm thinking a journey of a different sort.
