The poor Statue of Liberty. Always getting destroyed, dismantled or decapitated on the silver screen. Take the trailer for Cloverfield for instance. Lady Liberty's head comes tumbling down the street like a bowling ball, torn off by some mysterious monster dreamed up by J.J. Abrams. And this isn't the first flick to fracture, deface, mutilate, dismantle, or just plain annihilate one of our country's most famous symbols. What do Hollywood moviemakers have against her? Maybe the folks in L.A. are taking out some deeply suppressed anger and jealousy they have for New York City. Or maybe it's because she's French.
