There is one universal truth to everyone who follows celebrity news: we love a train wreck. Just when the wheels start to come off the track, tabloid magic happens.
There is no greater medium for a celebrity disaster than the rushed wedding ... and its inevitable aftermath. Following are some of the most memorable celebrity shotgun weddings in pop culture history.
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee
Ah, the infamous wedding that lead to the even more infamous honeymoon video. Pam and Tommy met in Cancun the day after Valentine's Day in 1995, when the Motley Crue drummer licked her face upon meeting her. How romantic. Four days later, they were married. The bride wore a thong bikini, natch. And just to keep this union extra classy, the couple opted to tattoo each other's names around their ring fingers in lieu of the more traditional wedding bands. Surprisingly, the couple managed to stay married long enough to have two sons together. Later, Pam married Kid Rock in an equally unconventional ceremony, where she donned a white bikini and a captain's cap aboard a yacht in St. Tropez.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline
Of course, an obvious choice here would be to choose Britney Spears' marriage to Jason Alexander, but lest one forget, she and Kevin Federline were only together for about three months before they found it necessary to tie the knot. Alas, a few months after their second child, Jayden James, was born, they filed for divorce. One could argue this event sent Britney into the tailspin that ended up with head-shaving, umbrella-smacking and a totally zoned-out VMA performance, but no one wants to give K-Fed that much credit.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
After one month of dating, also documented on Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami, Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom wed in a lavish million-dollar ceremony that will be featured in a two-hour special on E! on November 8. Some have argued that the wedding was so rushed that a prenuptial agreement was not reached until after the blessed ceremony. We wish you kids good luck, but let's just say history has proven this "date for a month and then get hitched" thing to be a bad idea many times over.
Shannen Doherty and Ashley Hamilton
In 1993, Shannen Doherty was 22 and living the high life, starring as the wonderfully bitchy Brenda Walsh on TV's hottest show, Beverly Hills, 90210. She met 19-year old Ashley Hamilton, son of George Hamilton, and after knowing each other for two full weeks, they got married. Great idea for the young couple! Shockingly, they divorced five months later. Doherty went on to become briefly engaged to '80s bad boy Judd Nelson, then split with him and later married Rick Saloman -- yes, he of the Paris Hilton sex tape -- which would last nine months. Shannen's love life has proved to be even more complicated than Brenda's, which is saying something.
Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra
Dennis Rodman, former star of the Chicago Bulls, and Carmen Electra, hottie among all hotties, got married at the Little Chapel of White Flowers in Las Vegas and divorced nine days later. They were an on-again/off-again hot mess until 1999 when a domestic dispute resulted in battery charges that were later dropped. A few years later, Carmen married Dave Navarro and documented their love on an MTV reality show, which naturally led to divorce in 2007. She is currently engaged to Robert Patterson.
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz started dating at some point in 2006, although no one is really sure because it seemed to be relatively uncommitted and very purposefully unpublicized (perhaps a lesson that Ashlee learned from sister Jessica Simpson). They announced their engagement in mid-April and were married a month later ... and shock of all shocks, their son Bronx was born just five months later! Word on the street at the time was that notorious control-freak Papa Joe Simpson may have pressured the young pair into matrimony upon learning of the pregnancy. However, besides a few hang-ups where a drunk Ashlee yells at Pete's ex-girlfriends in clubs, they seem like a pretty stable couple ... for now.
