Will Smith in I Am Legend10.) I Am Legend
I hold high respect for any filmmaker that can turn an animal into a real, honest-to-god character. They turned The Omega Man into a boy-and-his-dog story and made my favorite version of this classic apocalyptic tale. Oh yeah, and they made the ending just plain KILLER.

Kasi Lemmons in Talk to Me9.) Talk To Me
Pretty much ignored, this Kasi Lemmons masterpiece features some of the very best acting of the year.

Black Book8.) Black Book
Paul Verhoeven's single best film, I've been talking about this WWII film around these parts for a year now and it is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Nick Frost in Hot Fuzz7.) Hot Fuzz
Forget all this talk about all things Apatow, this was the single funniest movie of the year. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg can do no wrong.

Julia Roberts in Charlie Wilson's War6.) Charlie Wilson's War
I cannot stress how in love I am with this film and with Aaron Sorkin's screenplay.

Russell Crowe in 3:10 to Yuma5.) 3:10 To Yuma
The single best Western since Unforgiven, I've seen this thing nearing a half dozen times now.

Russell Crowe in American Gangster4.) American Gangster
When Ridley Scott makes a good movie, he makes a REALLY good movie. And this is up there with his best.

The Orphanage3.) The Orphanage
Not only is this the single best foreign film of the year, it is the only movie in my top 10 to make me cry. Twice. A film so good that it echoes early Spielberg.

Christina Ricci in Black Snake Moan2.) Black Snake Moan
Though completely ignored, this is easily the single most profound, religious film of the year. Brilliant, powerful and unlike anything you have ever seen.

Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood1.) There Will Be Blood
Simply the greatest film of the year. While it won't be for everyone, it certainly was for me. It blew my mind seven ways from Sunday. This is Daniel Day-Lewis' single greatest performance. Not giving him the Oscar this year would be positively criminal.
