Hunting Down Box Office Truth Since 2006

5. Employee of the Month $8.2m
It looks truly mediocre, and I think I'm ready to "sell" on the whole Dane Cook phenomenon. We'll see this weekend if the general public is with me.

4. The Guardian $10.7m
It might be time for Kevin Costner to throw on his Robert Redford hat and step out of the action guy persona. I think we like him better introspective anyway.

3. Open Season $13.8m
Two R-rated movies ahead of this one that the children won't be seeing which will probably lead to a nice showing for this animation.

2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning $15.2m
It isn't getting critical love, but horrors rarely do. It will get the normal fans of scare to come out and attract few others.

1. The Departed $23.3m
A tremendous weekend to open for this little R-rated flick. Nothing serious opposes it, and I'm wondering if everyone got together and decided to give Jack a little gift. I guess he's earned it, still crazy after all these years.

Check back with MaryAnn on Monday to see how the weekend played out.
