Big Hitter: Weekend Movie Plans, a Creepy Photo of Tilda Swinton, and Verbinski Ditches Pirates

Plus we encourage you to see Fast and Furious, a quote from Billy Bob Thornton, and Flutter is the new Twitter.

Movies This Weekend That Might Interest You
I'm giving Observe and Report a middlin' grade. It never really rises to the levels of amazing dark comedy. In other news, Christine Champ will be taking a hatchet to Hannah Montana, and Ammon will be paying to see Dragonball Evolutions (as they've tried to hide it from us).

I'd actually encourage you to see either Fast and Furious (for escape) or Knowing, if you haven't yet. Don't get me wrong, Knowing features moments of terrible acting (thanks, Nic Cage!) and the first 75 percent of the movie has nothing to do with the last 25 percent. However, the concepts presented near the end are weighty and ambitious, definitely worth talking about afterward over coffee and apple pie.

Press Releases of Note
Paper Heart (which I caught at Sundance) has been given a wide release date of August 14. Though if you live in NYC or LA you can see it the weekend prior.

We also received a few stills from Jim Jarmusch's new film, The Limits of Control. Behold, a very creepy-looking Tilda Swinton and Paz De La Huerta as a nude model.

Sequel Rumor of the Day
Verbinski is out for Pirates of the Caribbean 4. We've got an article coming, but that's the news.

Quote of the Day
"I'm a drummer -- we don't cart those around at 6 o'clock in the morning." - Billy Bob Thornton

As a side note, I've interviewed Mr. Thornton. He seemed like good people to me. Perhaps there was just an appalling lack of chemistry at work here?

What I Watched Last Night Besides a Movie
Caught up on Celebrity Apprentice and Chuck. Plus, now that baseball season has started I've got to obsessively check my fantasy guys around the clock. Illogical? Sure. Fun? Not really. Obsessive-compulsive? Definitely.

What I'm Reading Right Now
Love as Always, Kurt: Vonnegut as I knew Him by Loree Rackstraw. It's really solid so far. It's interesting to see the struggles of a literary giant through the eyes of a close friend.

Deep Thought of the Day
Is there any other sort of shrift besides a short one? Are there any other types of mongers besides the war and rumor ones?

Videos For You
Sick of how looooooong Twitter is? How about Flutter? Just like Twitter, but with only 19 percent of the depth!
