Big Hitter: The Twilight DVD, Watchmen Finally Screens, and The Brothers Bloom

Plus good music from mediocre films and a classic video from the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.

What I'm Seeing This Week
Watchmen! Yep. Rainy London has seen it. The city of angels has already weighed in. And now, finally, it's coming to Seattle, only eight months after the Sonics took off. The rest of the week doesn't hold much in the way of screenings. We've got Edge of Love and Crossing Over covered by other (smarter) writers. So I'll rest up until next week's Race to Witch Mountain, Adventureland, and Sunshine Cleaning.

What I Saw Last Week
Brothers Bloom! Man, I'd really like for them to screen this film again. It has elements of all these films: Slumdog Millionaire, The Game, Lucky Number Slevin, Life Aquatic, and A Fish Called Wanda. It's from the director of Brick, Rian Johnson. I think it's coming out on May 15, so be on the lookout for it. We've also got an interview with Rian Johnson coming in the near future. After Watchmen it's pretty slim pickings so we're gonna have to make our own fun around here.

Press Releases of Note
Hmmm ... well, we're running this Watchmen contest. And Twilight is doing a midnight DVD thingie; they just emailed me the following:

On Friday, March 20, 2009, from 10PM until 12 midnight, Summit Home Entertainment will provide TWILIGHT fans across the country with the chance to celebrate the midnight DVD release of the film that has unanimously been described as a “full-blown pop culture phenomenon.” TWILIGHT at MIDNIGHT will allow participating retailers the opportunity to stay open late as fans line up to purchase the DVD of the epic romance at midnight parties. The official TWILIGHT website -- www.twilightthemovie.com -- will feature a unique store locator from which fans can find out which retailers will be holding midnight parties.

This Week's Podcast Topics
None! See, it was a trick topic. The podcast had its season one finale last Thursday, and we'll be coming at ya with a whole new format on March 19.

Today's Movie Stories on the Internets
I like this Elisabeth Rappe column on Good Music from Mediocre Films over at Cinematical. I would add "Satellite" from K-Pax to her list. And maybe the whole Road Trip soundtrack.

Early Box Office Take
I'm already on the record for Watchmen making $88.5 million. It would be sheer cowardice to back off the throttle now.

Videos For You
An oldie but a goodie, "Maps" from The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.
