Movies This Weekend That Might Interest You Well, I'm not seeing Max Payne until Friday but I'm told it's disappointing. Ninety minutes of blah, though evidently you're supposed to stay through the end credits for another scene if you go. I did catch W., though. A well done film, though not something I'd recommend -- unless you're looking for more depression in your life. I'm not. All stocked up on sadness, thanks!
Podcasts That Aren't Mine That I Still Love I enjoy Jim Cramer's Mad Money. I don't really follow his investment advice (because I mostly invest in cheese and pasta), but he's entertaining at least. If all our monies are evaporating why not have a good time with it, eh?
Press Releases of Note EW has Star Trek on the cover. I was telling my bosses yesterday that I think we need a Film.com magazine. Then we could get Sylar Spock to pose for us. Note: If you click on the image you'll get the full size image which will most likely take over your entire screen, making all your dreams come true.
Sequel Rumor of the Day IGN is sayingBull Durham 2 is confirmed. No word yet on whether or not Tim Robbins actually learned how to throw a baseball in the 20 years since filming wrapped on the original.
Quote of the Day
Matt Farrell: (to John McClane) "When was the last time you remember turning on the radio and listening to popular music? Or, just give me a decade. The '70s, I'm guessing? Was Michael Jackson still black? Pearl Jam? I'll go back ten years with you. Ten years ... 20 years, The Cure? Nothing?"
What I Watched Last Night Besides a Movie The debate (of course). Then the post-debate analysis. I watched a bit of CNN and I'm really digging their "every political commentator" ever on-stage technique. Innovative. I wouldn't have thought to put 15 people with laptops on one show ... but that's why I'm a lowly writer and not a big-time CNN producer.
What I'm Reading Right Now What It Takes, a book about the 1988 presidential election. The massive work follows six candidates, including Bush Sr., Bob Dole, and Joe Biden. It's really interesting so far. To give credit where credit is due I heard about the book by reading a Will Leitch column. He's the former lead editor over at Deadspin. I think now he works for New York magazine. Warning: the man has a clear bias for Woody Allen so he's not to be trusted movie-wise. He is a tremendous writer though.
Deep Thought of the Day You can be underwhelmed, you can be overwhelmed, but you can no longer just be plain old "whelmed" (though evidently the word was in usage 500 years ago). I feel like if someone out there could teach us to be whelmed we'd all be way better off. I wanna be whelmed. And now that I've beaten this notion into the ground I'll direct you towards...
