Movies This Weekend That Might Interest You
I'm seeing Taken on Friday my own self (I missed the screening due to Sundance). I can't see watching New in Town, though I made Christine Champ do exactly that. I've heard good things about The Class.

Press Releases of Note
The press releases have been ruthless the past few weeks. As we speak I have 146 emails from friendly PR people. Among the notables:

*Season 5 Auditions for So You Think You Can Dance in Miami on February 3. Only I don't think I can dance, so I really don't understand this line of questioning.

Oscar Statuette*Here's a printable .pdf ballot for The Oscars.

*I was given access to an exclusive interview with Spudnick from Space Buddies.

*High School Musical 3: Senior Year will be on DVD and Blu-ray on February 17.

*Pretty Woman hits Blu-ray on February 10.

Contest
Have you heard all about The Wire but were too afraid to commit to season one? I have some good news for you. We're giving away Season One of The Wire freeeeeeee! This DVD has come to my desk by an odd confluence of events involving borrowed copies, Amazon, and hurt feelings.

What do you have to do? It's simple actually. Be the first one to email me the name of the perky Republican lawyer from season two of The West Wing. You can find my email address by clicking on my name at the top. That's all I can do for you.

The A-TeamSequel Rumor of the Day
It's more of a reboot, but The A-Team is back on the docket. We've already cast The A-Team, the last time it was back on, before it was cool.

Quote of the Day

β€œIt's been dying since the second season. It's always about reinvention.” - Lorne Michaels on SNL

Deep Thought of the Day
I worked all morning on the idea that The Oscars should have automatic bids for Best Picture. I had a box office category, a critical darling category, and a "People's Choice" (but not the crappy kind) category. After much tinkering, I ended up with the following nominations for Best Picture:

The Dark Knight
Man on Wire
Wall-E
The Wrestler
Slumdog Millionaire

I was going to run with the concept for an article but it just got exhausting. So I've scrapped the notion. It's impossible to right The Academy's wrongs at this point, and it's not like they are ever going to change. They have 80 years of tradition behind them -- all I've got is my giant head on a website. Plus, I've already gone to town on how terrible that Reader nomination is. It was a mixture of giving up and letting go. I call it Lazy Zen.
