Big Brother 9: Morality Debate Heats Up
Has Big Brother lost its moral compass or are we getting what we asked for?
CBS
Posted by HamsterDame It's very interesting how at the start of every season of Big Brother fans complain that it's not as good as the season before it. Now this isn't a rant post against fans of the show by any means so before you get your undies in a wad, hear me out. I have some thoughts I want to get out before this season continues much further. Longtime fans of the show have a tendency to compare current seasons to Big Brother 2 or possibly Big Brother 3. Newer fans tend to compare the current season with either Big Brother 6 or last season's Big Brother 8. Me? I tend to compare seasons to BB2 but that's just because I absolutely loved the hamsters and gameplay that season. That's not to say that I haven't loved the houseguests in other seasons or their gameplay. That season was just my favorite. But let me be clear on one thing -- I have loved every single season of Big Brother. There's all this talk going on about how Big Brother is slip slidin' downhill and has lost its moral compass. Gimme a break. The morality of Big Brother is solely determined by the houseguests in any particular season. Think about it. Each and every single one of us knows people like the ones in the house -- this season or previous seasons. We all know a slut, a liar, an attention whore, a free spirit, an ass, etc. These types of people have been in the house every single season. It's nothing new. We've had weirdos before. We've had sluts before. We've had tons of attention whores before. The current hamsters have been in the house just over a week now and are still getting to know each other. It's easy for us to say that we always present our true selves to everybody we meet. The fact is, we don't -- at least 99% of us anyway. And yes, I include myself in that group. What's that saying? You only really get to know somebody once you live with them? It's true. The ladies' tits and asses will only get them so far. The same goes for the guys' machismo. Eventually, their real selves will come out. And we're the lucky ones in that we get to watch it unfold before our very eyes. Ladies and gentlemen, we have drama. Surely you don't watch the show, and especially the live feeds, expecting campfire camaraderie and Bible reading. We want excitement. We want scheming, fighting, and even some hanky panky every now and then. We want to watch them try to work their way out of tight situations. In other words, we watch it for what it has always been and will continue to be: A mini social experiment. So don't fool yourself into thinking you'll be going anywhere. I don't want to be alone when the consequences of Matt and Natalie's late night action comes back to bite them. Because you know it will -- in the house and in real life. All of these hamsters are going to have times like this and I can guarantee you I will be around to watch it all. I might be bitching about it or possibly jumping up and down excited out of my mind. But I'll be watchin'. Do you have any thoughts to add? Got a question? Ask Big Brother Here. Your question may be read on the air on CBS's Housecalls! Most Popular Stories
