In honor of You Don’t Mess With The Zohan coming in second at the box office last weekend, let’s take a moment to rank the best roles of the versatile Mr. Adam Sandler.

Here are my top three choices from each of the three faces of Adam.

The Idiots:

3.) The Waterboy: A lovable man-child with a high voice and a volatile temper learns valuable life lessons when he’s promoted from team gofer to all-star tackler.

2.) Happy Gilmore: A lovable man-child with a silly high voice and a volatile temper learns valuable life lessons when he’s forced to leave the hockey rink and take up golf instead.

1.) Billy Madison: A lovable man-child with a silly high voice and a volatile temper learns valuable life lessons when he’s forced to redo his entire education.

The Ones The Girls Liked Too:

3.) 50 First Dates: A sweet veterinarian must re-woo Drew Barrymore when she wakes up and forgets who she is every day.

2.) Big Daddy: A sweet but spoiled slacker learns responsibility when he becomes the caretaker of an abandoned child.

1.) The Wedding Singer: A sweet singer/songwriter learns to stand up for himself when he falls for Drew Barrymore.

The Attempts At Serious Acting:

These include Punch-Drunk Love, Spanglish, and Reign Over Me. I’d rank them, but I haven’t actually seen any of these movies in their entirety. I guess I prefer my Sandler dumb and lovable, as opposed to tortured and nuanced.

Which are your favorite Sandler roles? And for those of you who’ve seen Zohan already, how does it stack up? You can read Eric D. Snider’s take here.
