Arrested Development: The Movie -- Things We Want to See

Break out the frozen bananas (again) -- fans of the unjustly canceled Fox sitcom Arrested Development will rejoice to hear it's back in business, as a full-length feature film slated for release in 2010.

It will be a continuation of the absurdly twisted tale of the struggles of Michael Bluth, the only sane savior in a once-wealthy clan of greedy, morally deranged, mentally incompetent troublemakers, tasked with saving the family biz (and the family) after his father is jailed for fraud.

Arguably never before has, and never again will, television behold such a virtuosic union of comedic writing, direction, and cast as it did in this hilariously high-brow masterpiece. So artfully layered with innovative wit and insightful satire that every episode is worth re-watching to mine for humor you may have missed in the first or second viewing. Considering how many loose ends were left at the cliffhanger series finale, there's plenty of fodder for a follow-up film.

In an MTV News 2009 Oscars interview, Ron Howard confirmed that "things are going really well" as "it's [the movie] moving ahead." While he wouldn't divulge any additional details, sources say along with writer/director Mitchell Hurwitz and producer/narrator Ron Howard, pretty much all of the original Bluth brood's on board, including: Jessica Walter (Lucille), Jeffrey Tambor (George Sr./Oscar), Will Arnett (Gob), Jason Bateman (Michael), Portia de Rossi (Lindsay), Tony Hale (Buster), and the last holdout, Michael Cera (George Michael). Plus of course the Funkes -- David Cross (Tobias) and Alia Shawkat (Maeby).

With the film in the capable hands of its original creator and cast, my hopes are high. Yet while I prefer to be side-splittingly surprised by whatever direction the script takes, I do have a wee wish list of things I wouldn't mind seeing included in Arrested Development's theatrical debut.

1. A disastrous Gob magic trick of ridiculous proportions to top all that have come before (or a slew of smaller, ridiculous flame-spurting, penny raining wonders).

2. The requisite amount of mis-phrased Tobias-isms -- such as "I blue myself."

3. Guest stars -- What celeb (or soon-to-be-celeb) hasn't had an Arrested Development cameo? I'm open to any fresh face. How about Kristin Wigg, Robert Downey Jr., or perhaps Christian Bale reprising his American Psycho persona ... then again I'd love a repeat performance from bread-manifesting wizard Tony Wonder (Ben Stiller).

4. A meaty thespian role for Tobias to research undercover, or another visit from Mrs. Featherbottom.

5. A Bluth-family chicken dance.

6. Closure on plot threads left untied such as: Is Tobias (as Heidi Klum would command) "in or out" (of the closet)? Will Lindsay ever find satisfying love? Can Maeby and George Michael ever be a couple? Will Lucille or the law win? Is Michael gone for good? Will Buster's second encounter with a bow-tied seal end better than the first?

Anyone else have Arrested Development movie hopes they'd like to add?
