Amy Poehler will star in a new comedy from the creators of the American version of The Office, NBC confirmed today.

The announcement followed a week of speculation among the TV writers gathered at the annual summer press tour in Beverly Hills, where word of Poehler's new gig leaked well before NBC was willing to comment.

Contrary to some reports, Poehler will not be part of The Office spinoff, which is still in the works, according to NBC Entertainment co-chief Ben Silverman. Instead, she'll star in a fresh Thursday comedy which is stylistically similar to The Office, but with a new setting and cast.

"It's not like the Jeffersons appeared in 'All in the Family,'" Silverman said.

The show, which originally was rumored to premiere after the Super Bowl in February, will not be ready to air by then. Poehler, whose first child is due in October, needs to become a real-life Baby Mama first.
