Denim and dresses ruled the stage on American Idol's country night, and thankfully, we saw many contestants starting to refine their own styles.

When it came to the guys, Matt Giraud was our pick for best dressed, looking suave and more and more like Justin Timberlake in his sleek suit and tie. Getting lost somewhere in the middle were Michael Sarver in a khaki jacket, blue jeans, and army green t-shirt; Scott MacIntyre in a red leather jacket; and Anoop Desai in a turquoise and purple patterned hoodie. Kris Allen was improved in basics, wearing a simple black button-down and gray jeans.

At the bottom of the style barrel, we've got Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert. It must have been an attempt to look angelic for Gokey, who wore a pure white jacket with popped collar, white sneakers, and silver glasses. In the night's most accurate style commentary, Simon said Danny looked like he was heading off on a "polar expedition." If Danny Gokey was heavenly, then Adam Lambert looked downright wicked. He wore fingerless gloves, a leather jacket with a gold sheen, and a pair of almost raunchily tight jeans complete with an exposed zipper. We're quite certain Randy Travis did not approve.

The girls were all winners when it came to the style department. Lil Rounds was much improved. She managed to incorporate pink and ruffles again but actually looked sophisticated this week. Allison Iraheta continues to be rocker-adorable, mixing a polka dot top and rose barrette with a red leather jacket and jeans. Alexis Grace undirtied herself by lengthening her little black dress and ended up looking sweet and sassy. But Kara protested, so Alexis will probably be back on the dirty train next week. And despite the fact that Simon likened her look to a prom dress, we thought Megan Joy (no longer Corkrey?) was boho chic and on trend in her aqua and brown maxidress by Ema Savahl accessorized with bronze earrings and matching eye shadow.
