Released: May 25th
Studio: Walt Disney
Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 168 Minutes
Why: The most anticipated movie of the year, POTC: At World's End, delivered a giant spectacle of a film to start the summer (no, I don't count Spider-Man 3). At its best the film had some stunning visuals for such a popular movie, the ship on the edge of the world and the dead multi Capt. Jack montage in particular was effective.
Would Have Been Rated Higher If: Check out that running time. Well, actually the real issue here is that the excess time isn't used effectively. If they'd replaced 20 minutes of Bloom-Knightley romance with 20 minutes of Capt. Jack this might have cracked the top three.
Critical Love: This was reviled. Metacritic has it at 50 out of 100. Not good. The Tomatometer liked it even less at 46 percent. The was the least liked of the trilogy by a decent margin.
Box Office: $929m. That's a goodly amount of dough isn't it? It won't beat Dead Man's Chest in terms of dollars but Walt Disney isn't exactly crying in their soup either.
DVD Info: N/A. There is no limit to the amount of extras we'll get here; the first seven disc set with all three movies can't be more than a year away.
