The CMT Awards may not be the first place you'd expect to find high fashion. And while there is plenty of big hair, big boobs and shiny outfits, there's also plenty of style to be found. Some of the best and brightest stars in country were out, so we're picking the best dressed and encouraging the rest to seek a stylist outside the country music scene.

Howdy, Partner!
Taylor Swift was definitely the belle of the ball. Wearing a short, champagne beaded dress and a dramatic side updo, she hit just the right notes of glamour and sophistication, without aging herself. Her fashion sense is as good as her albums -- and that says a lot! Julianne Hough used her killer dancer bod to her advantage in a cute, ruffled salmon cocktail dress. Factor in the dramatic accessories and loose updo, and she looked just darling! Lee Ann Womack wowed in a classic LBD with a strong ruffle skirt. Paired with a pink metallic belt, this was a perfect look for the established country star. Singer Jennifer Nettles wore a striking pale yellow, cocktail-length dress. The details and asymmetrical line of the skirt were stunning, and she was working it!

Get Back on the Horse
Olympian Shawn Johnson wore a floor-length dress, with a tight, layered gray bust and a blue-gray watercolored A-line skirt. The bottom was less than flattering for the pint-size super-athlete. Stick to short, Shawn! It's better for a woman of your stature. Actress Laura Bell Bundy had definite potential with her long-sleeved, riveted white dress. The neckline was a little too high for a woman her age, even when paired with the short skirt. I think a nice scoop would have made it just gorgeous. Sheryl Crow wore a sophisticated black jacket with a sparkly necklace and leather pants. There was nothing particularly wrong with the outfit; it was just sort of boring. T-Pain showed up (I'm still not sure why) in a red t-shirt, straw cowboy hat, and a chain that was about 12 inches x 10 inches and read "BIG ASS CHAIN." Points for originality and the mockery of materialism in hip-hop.

Put Out to Pasture
Singer Joey Martin Feek and wife Rory Lee Feek showed up dressed casually. Way casually. The Mister was wearing overalls and a button-down and the Mrs. was wearing a sleeveless button-down with a day silk scarf over it. HELLO! It's an awards show. Work on it. Kellie Pickler wore a floor-length silk gown, which frankly, was ill fitting and did not suit her gorgeous figure. Heidi Newfield wore a black, corseted, long-sleeve nightgown with over-the-knee black, suede boots. It's June for crying out loud! Dierks Bentley wore a casual button-down (halfway buttoned), dirty jeans, and a backwards baseball hat. Oh, and he brought his dog! It's nice to put on the "regular Joe" act, but you're on a red carpet, you're not fooling anyone.
