Hey y'all. Welcome back. Our mailbag was full of questions and comments about the twist, the Head of Household competition, casting, and the houseguests. Let's get right to it.
Question: Why do we have only YOUNG contestants with the exception of Sheila? This one is the first one I can miss a night of and not mind. You wanted to have X-rated, well you got it.
--Shirleyfw
Answer: That's a good question, Shirley. One of the reasons, I imagine, is that the last few seasons have been kind of raunchy and older people might not want to get caught up with that. I know I wouldn't. Another reason might be that older people are probably established and working and wouldn't be able to just take three plus months off for the show. The casting agency also probably did the demographics for the show and decided that this is the age group that the viewers would like to see. Not saying they're right, because from our letters they're not, but this is a possibility.
Question: Viewers feel played seeing Alex played. Watching him receive news he would be in the house when in the end it was up to houseguests to see who they wanted back in the house. Why hide him? We are all shocked. Just sad to see his reaction and then know he won't get the opportunity we gave him. What are your thoughts?
--Andrea
Answer: I was a little disappointed, also. I understand that revealing the mystery would ruin their 'devil you know vs. the devil you don't' scenario, but I thought it was handled badly. CBS did cover themselves by the wording of the promotion, but it was still disappointing to the viewers, who have not been shy about voicing their displeasure.
Question: Are Natalie and Matt a real couple outside the house? I am just dying to know the real answer to this question.
--Connie
Answer: The honest answer is that I don't know. I don't think they are, and nothing has come out about them being a couple. The Jen/Ryan connection was leaked before CBS told us, so I can only guess that if Matt and Natalie were a couple that would have leaked, also. I guess we'll find out after the season, because I'm sure they'll be asked.
Question: Is Natalie really that dumb or is she a really good actor? I would hate to believe that she can not see how Matt treats and thinks of her.
--jazzej
Answer: That's a highly debated question. I, personally, believe that part of it is real and part of it is an act. I think part of it is her strategy, and it's worked thus far. She's made comments about people thinking that she is dumber than she is, though, and that she is going to surprise them. I guess most of us will be surprised.
Question: When people get angry and aggressive can they be sent packing? I notice with Josh that when he gets really ticked that he gets in their face literally and his fingers become quite close to the persons face! He seems out of control with anger!
--Betty Ann
Answer: There are rules set up and the houseguests are very aware of what they can and can't get away with. Big Brother has also called guests into the Diary Room to calm them down. I know that if there is a physical attack, the offender will be removed, and I would hope that Big Brother would act if the houseguests felt that there was a real threat of violence.
Question: I would like to inquire from you some information about Big brother, because I would like to join and participate hence it looks interesting. So what does it take or what are the qualifications to join Big brother?
--Lois
Answer: You must be at least 21, a U.S. Citizen and live here, you cannot be a candidate for public office, and you must pass a physical and mental screening. The full list of qualifications and the application for Big Brother 10 is available Here
Question: What is the tattoo on James' shoulder ?
-- Suzanne
Answer: I won't try to describe that tattoo other than to say it would be very offensive to many religious groups. I will, however, give you a link so that you can see for yourself: Link
Question: If you guys can show all the boobs and butt in the house, why cover up James tattoo? I feel this is the most filthy BB in history.
--Patti
Answer: I really don't think they want to offend the religious right any more than they have. They can also choose not to show any nudity on the show, but with James going topless often, I think they have him cover up those particular tattoos so that they can use the footage that he's in. That's my guess. I guess they have their line that they won't cross.
Question: Why are the houseguests not allowed to sing in the house?
--Jack
Answer: They aren't allowed to sing because of copyright issues. The singing would be broadcast and CBS would have to pay royalties on the songs. That's why when they have parties with music and movie night, the feeds are blocked.
Question: How do these people keep their jobs while they are in the house? Did Big Brother know that Ryan and Jennifer were a couple when they were chosen for the show?
Can you do a seniors' season? Can't you just see it now? The competitions would have to be lower impact: a bridge tournament for HOH. Imagine the good meals. Showmance would take on a new meaning too.
--Laura
Answer: I'm not sure how they keep their jobs. Perhaps their bosses allow them to take a Leave of Absence. Some of them are students who take the semester off, and a couple have owned their own businesses, so that would give them that leeway. There have been a few that have just quit thinking that their acting careers would take off after the show.
Yes, Big Brother knew that Ryan and Jen were a couple. They were cast, and according to Jennifer, promised to be able to play as a couple.
I think a Senior season would be hilarious. I honestly don't think it would hold up in the ratings, it sometimes seems that America doesn't want to watch normal people.
Question: Why did James win HOH he clearly squatted on the disco disk many times? The rules were that you could not squat. Sunday it was shown many times him squatting for a long period of time.
--Pam
Answer: They were told, after the live show went off, that they could squat. Then at about the three hour mark, they were told again that they could not squat.
Thanks, y'all, for all the great questions. Keep them coming. And in case you haven't heard yet, Big Brother has been picked up for the summer and is currently casting. You can download the application at the link above and casting calls will be announced later. Catch y'all later.
