Tuesday is the DVD fiend's best friend. The rent is due, groceries need to be bought, and the baby needs a new pair of shoes. But not before we sort through this week's latest releases. Let's get it on!
Strong Buy:
1. The War - A Film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novak
Let's be real with each other. You haven't seen it. I haven't seen it. The American people haven't seen it. But our very own Ethan says we should give War a chance and damn it, that's good enough for me.
2. Entourage - Season Three, Part 2
Okay, I'm not a big fan of breaking up the seasons into two DVD releases. It just ain't natural -- I'm old school like that. But that isn't stopping me from picking up the latest antics of Vinny, Drama, Turtle and E. Basically, I'm saying I have no spine.
3. The Jungle Book (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Platinum Edition)
I wonder if we're to expect a 50th anniversary Blu-ray or HD DVD version one day? Or maybe a 60th anniversary holographic? Or a 70th anniversary virtual implant? It's thoughts like these that keep me on the meds.
Rental:
4. 1408
I missed this one in the theater, which is odd because I couldn't wait to see it (though I got some mixed signals from friends). Still, it features John Cusack and Sam Jackson, so how bad can it really be?
5. The Sarah Silverman Program -- Season One
I got more hate mail for giving Ms. Silverman a positive review for her Jesus Is Magic movie than anything else I have ever written on this site. So I'm not going to say that I loved her politically incorrect sitcom on Comedy Central. I'm not going to talk about how edgy and clever and fresh her comedy is and how surprisingly well it works on TV. I'm not even going to recommend you rent this movie. Just because I have it listed under "Rental" doesn't necessarily mean I recommend it. It might mean, for example, you should rent it and destroy the copy. You know what? I'm going to stop while I'm ahead.
6. Caligula Three-Disc Imperial Edition
Just for the extreme contrast, I think I'll watch this classic right after watching The Jungle Book. This 3 disc edition includes the unrated and uncensored feature film, yee-haw!
Probably Not:
7. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
I'm going to give you the short version of this one. The actors still suck. The comedy is still lame. The Silver Surfer is cool. The end.

Dre writes three times a week for Film.com. There isn't anything else particularly exciting about him. But he does speak Latin. Okay, we made that up. Email him!
