On DVD: Disney's Sleeping Beauty Gets a Golden Anniversary MakeoverOur pals at Disney give us a sneak peek at a new DVD that's a real (say it!) beauty.
'Sleeping Beauty (Two-Disc Platinum Edition)' -
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, Disney's animated classic Sleeping Beauty gets a 50th Anniversary makeover that delivers so much wow and sparkle it deserves its own reality show. With a budget that exceeded $6 million in 1959, this was Walt Disney's most lavish and expensive animated widescreen spectacle to date, one that crystallized the meaning of "Disney animated feature" for a new generation of audiences -- a classic fairy tale adapted for cinema with ambitious and startlingly fluid visuals, an Oscar-nominated musical score (featuring themes from Tchaikovsky's ballet), a brave and virtuous Prince, a spooky castle that's home to a Wicked Queen (the Wicked Queens are always the coolest, aren't they? And this one can alakazam! herself into a dragon!), as well as the now-standard addition of diminutive comical sidekicks in danger of getting mowed down by the epic-scale adventuring and evil-doing going on around them. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is releasing Sleeping Beauty on DVD and Blu-ray in a "Two-Disc Platinum Edition." The all-new digital restoration with enhanced picture and home-theater sound returns the movie to pristine color and vibrancy with state-of-the-art technology. The family-friendly bonus features include a never-before-seen alternate opening, a "Fully Immersive Virtual Tour" of Sleeping Beauty Castle, a dance game, new "making of" featurettes, a brand new music video from Hannah Montana's Emily Osment performing the famous "Once Upon a Dream," and more. Film.com's insider connection at Disney has sent us an exclusive clip from the bonus material for Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition. It gives you a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the sometimes rebellious designers who (for a while at least) were at odds with Walt Disney's plan for Sleeping Beauty's ambitious stylings. We have other clips too, such as the Platinum Edition's trailer, some cool behind-the-scenes and "how'd they do that?" interviews, and clips from the movie. You can find those right there to your right. Exclusive clip: "We had some minor battles over that." Comments
