Whitney Port Presents Her Spring Collection

Her line is more interesting than Lauren Conrad's, but watch out for the stirrup pants.

Whitney Port, star of the upcoming Hills spinoff The City, has joined the ranks of her Hills co-stars Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag by releasing a clothing line. The line, called Whitney Eve, is far more interesting than Lauren's line and much less skanky than Heidi's, which folded earlier this year. But while I love Whitney (she's the only Hills cast member I can stomach these days), I can't say the same for her designs.

The spring 2009 collection features a few adorable jackets and some charming dresses, but then there are items like tie-dyed stirrup pants and vest shirts. It's not that her whole collection is bad; there are just pieces in it that make you question Whitney's design skills ... and eyesight. According to Whitney her line is "something you can feel comfortable and sexy in, but also up-to-date and confident." I'm afraid stirrup pants do none of those things for me, Whitney. On the bright side, the line is filled with lots of color and floral prints, and there's potential for Whitney to grow as a designer. But I take issue with Whitney for the same reason I'm so bothered by Lauren Conrad's line -- the prices are too high for what she's selling. $345 for a sundress? Whitney's clothing should be affordable for the young fans who would actually want to buy a piece from her collection.

And by the way, does anyone else have a problem with the fact that The Hills and The City are shows about women climbing up the ladder of the fashion industry even though they're already selling their own clothing lines? Whitney is supposed to be working for Diane von Furstenberg and finding love in New York, not hawking her own designs on the side. I mean, should anyone in their early twenties even have their own clothing line? Aside from Christian Siriano, of course.
