Brash multimedia mogul whose broadcasting and entertainment empire achieved staggering size and breadth in the 1980s and 90s. Beginning in the family's outdoor advertising business selling rental space on billboards, Turner took over the company in 1963 and purchased Atlanta's local UHF station seven years later, forming the Turner Broadcasting System (TBS).
