biography

Prolific, distinguished character player from the stage who began his film career in 1914. A matinee idol in the 1920s, Blackmer portrayed Teddy Roosevelt more than a dozen times on film and stage and later specialized in unctuous heavies; he is probably best known as the suave devil-worshipper Roman Castevet in "Rosemary's Baby" (1968).
