Playing Career Counselor For Shia LaBeouf

Clearly, Shia LaBeouf could use some career advice. Let's give it to him.

Shia LaBeouf may be one of the biggest young stars in Hollywood these days, but with such a hot career, he's never had the time to go to college. This means he never got to benefit from the sage advice of a college career counselor. After a year of such extreme professional highs (working with Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull; scoring a hit with Eagle Eye) and extreme personal lows (severely injuring his hand and being arrested for DUI during a car accident; getting mercilessly ridiculed on Film.com for his Indiana Jones monkey-fight), I feel young Mr. LaBeouf could benefit from this type of professional guidance. Since I don't have a college career counselor at my disposal, I will do my best to fill the role myself. Here's the advice I'd give to Shia:

1. Broaden your curriculum: Shia has excelled in his action/adventure major, but has yet to develop the kind of well-rounded portfolio needed to achieve longevity in his chosen career. He could benefit from a few comedy electives.

2. Fulfill your history requirement: There's no easier route to an Oscar and the respect that comes with it than to play an historical figure. Shia proved in Indiana Jones that he fits nicely into the garb of the late '40s/early '50s era. Perhaps a World War II epic could serve him well? If Shia wants to make it on to the dean's list of Hollywood, I'd suggest trying to squeeze into an upcoming class called Inglorious Bastards, being taught by Professor Tarantino.

3. Make time for romance: Shia is a handsome, charming young man. But so far in his career, he's been too focused on fighting robots (and the occasional CGI monkey) to make time for a healthy love life. Young actors like Ryan Gosling and James McAvoy have performed well in this department. Maybe one of them could set Shia up with a nice young leading lady, and a good four-or-five-hankie script.

What do you think of Shia's future prospects? Is he making the right choices for a long, successful career?
