Movie Concepts That Couldn't Possibly Feature Shia LeBeouf

For example: We can't picture Shia as the lead in a musical.

Shia LaBeouf seems to be everywhere these days. He's currently the box-office champ with his latest film Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, and rumor has it he's gearing up for another Indiana Jones sequel. Essentially you can't shake a stick without hearing about Shia. But that doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be his generation's best actor.

For instance, here are a few film concepts that just wouldn't work for young Mr. LeBeouf:

1. Any action movie that doesn't involve giant robots, dinosaurs, or other larger-than-life creatures
Shia succeeded in Transformers partially because of his size. Everyone loves a movie about a little guy in a David-versus-Goliath-style battle. Shia's baby face and skinny frame fit in perfectly in a movie about giant robots based on childhood toys. But if he was forced to face off against normal humans in a film like The Bourne Identity, for example, no one would buy it. Beefcakes like Vin Diesel and Channing Tatum can rest easy at night. Shia's not coming to steal any of their roles.

2. The next The Notebook
Shia may be a heartthrob to some young ladies, but he's not the romantic lead type. He's good at making wisecracks and running for his life. But whenever he's asked to slow down and think about his feelings, audiences tend to get bored.

3. The next The Hangover
Shia has a sly sense of humor, but has yet to show he's willing to cut loose enough or suffer the kind of physical indignities necessary to headline an outrageous comedy.

4. The next Moulin Rouge
Shia may be a movie star, but he's no showman. No matter how many singing or dancing lessons he took, a lavish musical would likely swallow him whole.

5. A new Indiana Jones series focused on Mutt Williams
A lot of people hated Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. But even if you were OK with the aliens and monkey fights and the nuke-proof fridge, would you really watch an entire Mutt Williams adventure? Indy's son still has a few lessons in swagger and the art of adventuring before he can attempt to fill his dad's fedora.

Shia is a gifted actor with a resume that's quite impressive for someone his age. But before he starts to believe the "next big thing" hype that's been following him around for the last two years, let's hope he'll take a moment to think about his limitations as an actor and recognize what types of roles will work best for him in the future.
