Hart made her Broadway debut in "Equus" and garnered a 1983 Tony nomination for her supporting role in Peter Nichols's "Passion". She debuted on TV in the historical TV-movie "Kent State" (NBC, 1981) and followed up with roles in a wide variety of telefilms and several dramas broadcast as part of PBS's "American Playhouse" including "The Little Sister", "Painting Churches" (both 1986) and "Big Time" (1989).Hart made her first film appearance in Sidney
