Thin and wiry with delicate, somewhat androgynous features, Rob Lowe was inspired to become an actor after seeing a Dayton, Ohio production of "Oliver!" when he was ten years old. After his parents' divorce, he and younger brother Chad moved to L.A. with their mother. Lowe found work in TV commercials before landing the plum role of Eileen Brennan's son in the short-lived ABC sitcom "A New Kind of Family" (1979).
