Leading Mexican actress at her peak during the golden age of that country's cinema. Macedo began in films at the age of 14 in the well-received "Las Cinco Noches de Adan/The Five Nights of Adam" (1942) and was active in films over the course of the next four decades. Her best known films are two directed by Luis Bunuel: the very dark but hilarious satirical comedy "The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz" (1955); and the powerfully grim study of a saintly priest faced with hypocritical parishioners, "Nazarin" (1958), the latter featuring one of Macedo's finest performances as one of the Continued
