The most wonderful time of the year has come and gone, and it's only October. Yes, the Spring 2010 Runway shows are finished in Paris and New York. It's the last glimmer of hope for a new, warm season, right as the weather starts to turn cool. One thing is for sure -- there is a lot of fabulous fashion to look forward to in spring 2010; let that thought alone be enough to help you through the dullest of winter months. Expect the following fabulous pieces to make their debut on the red carpet and on your city's streets. Unusual Heel Shapes and Details If you'd thought you'd seen some crazy heel shapes before (remember Sarah Jessica Parker's "hoof" shoe?), you're in for a real treat this spring. From Alexander McQueen to Miu Miu, many designers showed some insane details, from feathers and impressive rhinestone/crystal work to the very Cinderella chunky clear heel. More than interesting details, though, were the shapes of the actual heels. From squiggly to caged, to an actual figurine for a heel, I think designers have really hit a creative high. I can defintely see Rihanna wearing some insane shoes, maybe something with some glam feathers, to next year's VMAs. Cheeky Cropped Shorts One of the most easily translatable trends that came out of Fashion Week were the cheeky cropped shorts. The high-waisted shorts were definitely in the spirit of the 1950s, and in surprising textures and fabrics. This trend is easily to adapt to real life because you can wear a lot of them for three seasons, albeit with tights in the winter. We expect the fabulous Lily Allen to be rocking some cutesy black shorts and a crisp white top, with a Chanel necklace of course. Longer, sheer skirts One of the most surprising and feminine shifts from last year's spring collections was the skirt length. Of course, there was a wide variety of skirt lengths, but we're starting to see skirts fall to mid-calf in sheer, airy fabrics. The Hermes runway collection showcased this trend in all its glory, full of whimsy and movement. I think we'll be seeing Chloe Sevigny and Katie Holmes use their long bodies to their advantage and showcase these flowy, almost iridescent skirts. Extremely Deep V-Neck As most women know, in cleavage, there's a thin line between sexy and skanky. Stella McCartney may have found the magic formula, showing gorgeous lacy deep V-neck sleeveless tops with high-cut Annie Hall-esque pants. The result is a sweet, yet sexy and sternum-bearing look. I'd like to see Jennifer Aniston finally ends the "she's so miserable" tired old plotline this spring by rocking these gorgeous tops. Architectural Draping Creativity in use of fabrics hit an all-time high at Haider Ackermann this year. The Colombian designer used silk jersey to create incredible shapes, ranging from unique layering to clothes that could seemingly stand on their own. Max Azria had a more body-conscious take on the crazy draping. My guess is lots of retailers will pick up this trend with subtle sleeve details, and incredible dresses. You know Angelina Jolie and Tilda Swinton's stylists are all over this. Can't wait for Oscar season! Most Popular Stories
