Serpe started his entertainment career as an independent theatrical agent and moved into the Italian film industry as vice president of the Scalera film Studios in Rome. A few years later he established a business relationship with Italian movie mogul Dino De Laurentiis that would serve him for most of his professional career. Working for Ponti-De Laurentiis Corp., Serpe negotiated production and distribution deals for a few classics of art cinema and several sprawling international co-productions. His credits include Federico Fellini's "La Strada" (1954) and "Nights of Cabiria" (1957) as well
