biography

Key contemporary German-language writer who entered feature films in 1972, co-adapting (with first-time director Wim Wenders) his novel "The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick". Handke made an assured directing debut with "The Left-Handed Woman" (1977), a perceptive study of alienation and ennui produced by Wenders and again adapted from his own novel.
