Hilary Duff to the rescue! NBC has hired the former Lizzie McGuire star to headline a new TV series and make guest appearances on current NBC shows.

The struggling network will develop a show around Duff, whose buzz factor has dimmed considerably since starring in a few box office flops -- Material Girls and The Perfect Man, anyone? -- and weathering a couple tabloid storms. Frankly, she hasn't been all that interesting since gaining back all that weight she lost and splitting with Joel Madden, who's now raising a baby with Nicole Richie.

In related news, NBC has recruited Pamela Anderson to make a cameo on freshman series Kath & Kim, which has already been renewed for a second season. In the tradition of NBC's 30 Rock and Will & Grace, no high-profile guest star will be refused!
