A hulking (6'3-1/2"), hardworking dark-haired character player and occasional lead, Oliver Platt grew up the son of a US diplomat, splitting his time between the Middle East, Asia and Washington, DC. After college, he pursued theater in the Boston area before relocating to NYC, where he acted Off-Broadway in productions at the Manhattan Punch Line Theatre Group. It was there that he caught the eye of actor Bill Murray, who recommended him to director Jonathan Demme.
