The sister of actor Serge Marquand and actor-director Christian Marquand, Trintignant worked as an editor with such directors as Jacques Doniol-Valcroze and Jean-Luc Godard before turning to directing. Her films typically deal with the problems of familial and sexual relationships. Wife, since 1960, of Jean-Louis Trintignant and mother of Marie Trintignant; both have appeared in her films.
