Best known as the guy with the knit ski-cap in the 1960s comedy-pop band "The Monkees." Drawing on his experiences with the "Monkees" TV show--in which the group's music was secondary to their visual packaging--Nesmith became an influential figure in the music video field in the late 1970s, developing the idea which led to the formation of the "MTV" (Music Television) cable channel.
