Opened own photography shop, Michael Cuesta Studio; shot print commercials for clients like Coca-Cola and Dupont
1992
Made transition to filmmaking shooting tabletop work for the now-defunct London-based Jennie & Co.
After six months, moved to A+R New York
1995
Began writing script for what eventually became his feature debut
Shot numerous commercials
2000
Feature film directorial debut "L.I.E"; chosen for the Dramatic Competition for the 2001 Sundance Film Festival; also co-wrote screenplay with brother Gerald and Stephen M Ryder and served as one of the producers; released theatrically in 2001
2002
Directed several episodes of the HBO funeral drama, "Six Feet Under"
2006
Directed sophomore feature "Twelve and Holding"; nominated for the John Cassavetes Award (Independent Spirit Awards)
