A native of Southern California, Lisa Cholodenko began her career in film as a post-production assistant on John Singleton's acclaimed "Boys N the Hood" (1991). After work as an assistant editor on such films as "The Lawnmower Man" and "Used People" (both 1992), she moved to NYC to attend graduate school. While at Columbia University, Cholodenko was mentored by Milos Forman and wrote, produced and directed two widely seen short films, "Souvenir" (1994) and "dinner party" (1996), both of which involved lesbian themes. With her first feature "High Art" (1998), the filmmaker explored a budding
