In his hit song, "Jesus Walks," Kanye West says: "God, show me the way because the Devil's tryin' to break me down."

Clearly, Jesus had other plans Sunday night. He surely wasn't guiding Kanye as the rapper stripped Taylor Swift of her moment in the spotlight at the MTV VMAs when she won for Best Female Video.

However, anyone who follows Kanye, 32, probably wasn't that surprised when he dissed the 19-year-old singer during her acceptance speech. Picking on a teenager does seem like a new low for him, though. To be fair, Kanye has apologized. But honestly, the guy has to be missing the editor in his head to pull a stunt like that in the first place.

For Kanye, a huge ego has equaled a long history of public jackassery. And most of the incidents stem from the idea that he can do or say whatever he wants, no matter what the circumstance. Here's a round-up of his more horrifying public meltdowns:

"I was definitely robbed. I was the best new artist this year."
On Nov. 14, 2004, Kanye was a best new artist nominee at the American Music Awards. After losing to country singer Gretchen Wilson, he walked out, and promised never to attend another AMA show again. He later told reporters "I felt like I was definitely robbed. I'm not going to give any politically correct bulls**t ass comment... I was the best new artist this year."

"A lot of people were wondering what I was going to do if I didn't win ... I guess we'll never know."
When Kanye won a Grammy award for his album College Dropout on Feb. 13, 2005, he accepted with a egomaniacal speech (surprise!), saying, at one point, "A lot of people were wondering what I was going to do if I didn't win ... I guess we'll never know."

"George Bush doesn't care about black people."
As the Red Cross staged a fundraising effort for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on Sept. 2, 2005, Kanye used his camera time to spout a televised rant about how the government was handling the situation. A stunned Mike Myers stood next to him as he said: "George Bush doesn't care about black people."

"If I don't win album of the year, I'm going to have a real problem."
The Grammy nominations hadn't even been announced, but Kanye just knew he'd be nominated. On Dec. 4, 2005, he told MTV News he'd have a "real problem" if Late Registration didn't win album of the year and, among other crazy rantings, also compared himself to Tom Cruise. Not a bad comparison, but probably not for the reason he meant. We could totally see him jumping up and down on Oprah's couch in some another lame fit.

"If I don't win, the award show loses credibility."
At the MTV Europe Music Awards on Nov. 2, 2006, Kanye's "Touch the Sky" video lost to Justic and Simian's "We Are Your Friends." The rapper leapt on stage during the duo's acceptance speech, saying "it cost a million dollars and Pamela Anderson was in it. ... If I don't win, the award show loses credibility."

"Give a black man a chance! That's two years in a row!"
With five nominations at the Sept. 9, 2007 VMAs, Kanye went home empty-handed. A backstage temper tantrum ensued, which The Insider caught on tape. "Give a black man a chance! That's two years in a row!"
But he was mad before he even got there. During a pre-VMA show two days prior, he spewed frustration that Britney Spears got to open the show instead of him. During a freestyle rap, he said: "I can't believe she would perform; she hasn't had a hit record in years."
He vowed to never return to an MTV award show. Too bad for Taylor Swift he didn't stick to that.
