Ghostbusters Rises From the Grave
Rumors have been swirling about a remake of the classic '80s comedy.

Dada daa-da daa-da ... da-da-da-da daa-da. If there's something strange in your neighborhood ... who ya gonna call? Judd Apatow! Call who? Say what? Yes my bong-bearing, will-grow-Jesus-beard-on-a-dare, kiss-and-sex-talking Apatow McLovers, you heard me correctly. It's not a Mary Jane-fogged fantasy. This rumor flew straight from a ghostbuster's mouth, like a slimy green phantom bursting from a ghost trap. When queried about the possibility of a third Ghostbusters movie, Dan Aykroyd told E! News "two sharp young writers are purported to be writing the sequel, the third movie now. If I could interest Seth [Rogen] and Judd [Apatow] to be part of it, that would be an absolute dream." Gossip about Ghostbusters rising from the grave has been materializing ever since the announcement of the new Ghostbusters video game. Ghostbusters creators Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd penned the script, and all four founding ghostbusters - Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson; plus a few other ectoplasm experts will be back in spirit and in voice. Though, sadly, Sigourney "I am the Gate Keeper!" Weaver and Rick "I am the Keymaster!" Moranis are not on board. Reportedly when Moranis was offered a piece of the Ghostbusters pie, his response was essentially, "I'm good." Thanks to the millions he made off of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, he's retired. The ghoulish lineup for the video game includes old haunts;Slimer, Gozer and my personal fave Stay Puft Marshmallow Man; as well as a new ethereal enemy. Many thought this was the closest fans of the big-screen boo-hunters would get to a Ghostbusters III. But then from one media mouth to another, stories began to float about the making of a new movie. Though the veteran specter-exterminators will supposedly still be part of the film, talk is they'll be handing their proton packs off to 40-Year-Old Virgin alums Seth Rogen, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Romany Malco. Yet, when Rogen was asked about the sequel during a Pineapple Express press day in NY (a few weeks prior to Aykroyd's E! interview), he reportedly hadn't a clue. "Really, That's f***ing rad! No one's told me about it. Sounds fun though ... but are you sure I'm not playing Slimer?" Or perhaps Stay Puft? Rogen's kinda cute and cuddly wuddly like a giant marshmallow man, though he'd be a more mellow than murderous mallow. If it's true I suppose it makes sense. Aykroyd and crew were the comedy elite of the '80s while Seth and rest are the jesters of their generation. But are they the best team for the task? How about James Franco? Ben Stiller? Perhaps Robert Downey, Jr.? He's more than proven his comic chops in Iron Man and Tropic Thunder. And let's not forget Jack Black. His bumbling humor and madman zaniness would suit a ghostbuster or a ghostly fiend. And is Ferrell too silly to be taken as a serious spook wrangler? How about a prequel with the Superbad crew? More importantly, what happens when Apatow goes ghostbusting? Stoned slimers? Boyfriends haunted by bitter exes? Two-hundred-year-old virgin ghosts looking for a lay (and related spectral sex jokes)? Seemingly unattainable hot smart chicks become possessed by demons and therefore are attainable by paranormal nerds? Can we trust Apatow to carry the Ghostbusters torch? Or is this all just frightful rumor? I, for one would love a Ghostbusters reincarnation. It's about time. Besides, I aint 'fraid of no Apatow ghosts. Dada daa-da daa-da ... Most Popular Stories
