Advertising executive-turned-documentarian Joe Berlinger has created some of the most riveting nonfiction films of the 1990s with his partner Bruce Sinofsky. Beginning his career in advertising at McCann-Erickson in 1983, he moved to Ogilvy & Mather's Frankfurt office to produce TV commercials the following year. By he had joined Maysles Films, where he worked his way up to executive producer. At Maysles, Berlinger learned about documentary filmmaking and also met his future collaborator.
