biography
Before Carson, Letterman or Leno arrived on the scene, Jack Paar set the late night standard, introducing the familiar guests-on-a-couch set that to this day remains the altar before which an endless parade of guests eagerly genuflect. Born in Canton, OH, he overcame an early stutter and began as a radio announcer, eventually entertaining the troops in the South Pacific as a noncombatant soldier during World War II.
