This craggy-faced, expressionless leading man is best known as Lt. Steve McGarrett on the long-running CBS series "Hawaii Five-O" (1968-80), which he also produced. The son of a steamship executive, Jack Lord has actually gone to maritime school and served as a Merchant Marine before taking a career turn toward acting. Billed under his real name, Jack Ryan, he had bit parts in two 1949 films: "The Red Menace" and "Project X". Returning to New York, he studied at both NYU and with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse. By 1953, Lord was touring with the national company of "Flame Out"
