A prolific TV producer, director and occasionally writer of comedy-variety fare which tested the limits of the medium in a way acceptable to Middle America, George Schlatter is best recalled for such long-running series as "Rowan and Martin's Laugh In" (NBC, 1968-73), and "Real People" (NBC, 1979-84). But he was also the guiding force behind numerous variety specials and series, including "The Judy Garland Show" (CBS, 1963-64). Much of Schlatter's material and concept can be connected on a TV historical plane to the late Ernie Kovacs. Perhaps not coincidentally, the producer is married to
